Hey, saw you with G. Castle in Redmond.
The back of my neck was surrounded by a pair of breasts
as thier owner reached over me to get your autographs. Hehe.
Your experience and positive down-to-earth attitude made the
show enjoyable. You're an asset to any group of musicians, whereas
many who have enjoyed your level of success are just asses!
Thanks for the experience.

Congrats to you, Roger, for crafting some of the truly great guitar solos and riffs from the 70's. As a young guitarist myself in the mid-70's, your work on the first 4 Heart albums was a part of my inspiration and 'mentoring'. It really was the band's loss when you departed. They completely lost their "edge" and the energy/excitement vanished. I met you once in Bellingham (circa 1979). The group I was in at the time, Brittany, was playing the club circuit and we did quite a few Heart songs (as we had a female singer). Fun days and fun memories.

Roger, just want to say that I love the "Evolution" CD. Fantastic disc! I'm saddened to read about the demise of "Big Game", especially since I never got the chance to see or hear the band. Given how great the "Evolution" CD was, and how psyched you were about "Big Game" I'm sure we all missed out on some great music. Too bad you can't just erase and re-do the vocals ;-) I'd love to get a chance to hear some of the live stuff you've been doing lately, especially the instrumental "free-jazz style" guitar stuff. Any chance of releasing some of these sets on a CD or CD-R? I'd gladly purchase a bunch of them! Best wishes for the upcoming new year! Guess I've have to get out to the Pacific Northwest and check out some shows sooner or later. John Gaulke

Hi Roger, I have really enjoyed this web site and others that discuss your past and recent musical projects. You are a most gifted individual. Bravo! By the way, I was the bass player whose name you didn't know. The drummer was Jimmy Thoman. We play in the band Inergroove with Evan Wickham and Zak C. We will be present at the festival in Granite Falls Sunday, September 29 2003. I am anxious to meet you again and hear more about your music and life. I am impressed with how it appears you have grown so much as both a person and musician since your time with the Wilson sisters. I hope we can share some thoughts on making music, meditation, love of life and nature and the impact they all have upon the world. I believe music is the common thread that weaves together the many wonderful ancient cultures throughout this beautiful planet; a tapestry of warm hearts, smiling faces, open embraces and thoughtful listening ears. I look forward to seeing you soon.
God's blessings to you on your music and your beautiful family.
Sincerely, Mark and Inergroove

As a man in his early forties, I was just the right age to be a huge Heart fan in the mid-Seventies. I lost interest in the band after Roger's departure, as many did (though the various later versions of the band gained new audiences and fans). Even on Dog & Butterfly the band's musical and visionary tone had changed significantly, and become more self-conscious and cerebral--and Roger's contributions were fewer than they had been on the earlier records. Strangely enough, however, it's only been in the last five years that I've realized how enormous a contribution Roger made to Dreamboat Annie, Little Queen and Magazine, the only three Heart records I recognize as legitimate (the trouble with Magazine aside). In many ways, Roger was not only as equal a contributor to the band as Anne and Nancy, but the essence of the band itself. What would "Sing Child Sing," "White Lightning And Wine," "Crazy On You," "Magic Man," or "Devil Delight" have been without him? The first three Heart albums proved Roger was one of the greatest rock guitarists of the Seventies. Roger was, and is still, The Man. And even those who have had even the briefest meeting or electronic correspondence with him know what a fine human being he is. Long may he prosper and continue to contribute to world culture.

Roger ("Fish")- As one who goes waaay back to Kenmore Elementary days (4th grade on), I remember you more for your uncanny ability to race across the log booms below Uplake. I guess your fearlessness (carelessness?) and quick feet later translated to some serious guitar licks. I also remember hiring your band, Army, for a Boy's Club-sponsored dance at Inglemoor High. I believe the rate for the evening was $40- money well spent! Anyway, ran across this site looking for reunion info (no luck). Has it really been 35 years!?! I'm teaching junior high kids, with a two boys of my own (12 & 14). Still active and feeling young! Hi to you, and say hi to Steve Fossen if you're still in touch with him. Geoff Klein '68

Hey Rog, I hope everything is cool with you and your family?
I've been a big fan of you guitar playing for many years and it's nice to see you are still playing and writing music,
I have a few questions for you if you don't mind?
On the first couple of Heart tours you played a Natural Topped Les Paul Standard, what year was it made?
what happened to this Guitar and why did you stop playing it?
You then went to a white Les Paul Custom and then Stats, why was this?
Do still use Les Paul’s or just Strats?
I know you must have been asked this a thousand times but do you think that you, Mike and Steve will ever rejoin Heart?
After you guys left, the band lost all it's magic if you ask me, are you still in contact with Ann and Nancy?
I would love to see a DVD of Classic Heart stuff released, how much concert footage of Heart is in the Volts?
I have read that a second Alias album was recorded is this true? If so how come it never got released?
I love the first album.
And last of all do you have a postal address or e-mail for Mike Derosier?
He is my all-time Favourite Drummer and I would love to write to him,
If Zeppelin ever reformed Mike should get the gig he is the only one who could do it Justice!
Anyway thanks for time Rog.

Rock On

Nick

BTW I love the site, more Heart pics would be cool though.

Great websight Roger!
I really miss you and Nancy playing together.
You both played off one another like magic and
with such emotion. You don't find that anymore
with these new bands. They just can't seem to make
you feel what you are feeling while your playing.
Without you by Nancys side on stage is like having
Stevie Nicks without Lindsy Buckingham. I pray that
one day, the past can be put behind and that the two
of you can play together once again.

Love and Peace,
Margie

Dear Roger,
There's not enough space here to comment on the importance of your musical contributions during the last few decades.
The accuracy, speed, and technique you display while coaxing 12 notes out of 6 strings is an inspiration to us all.
While reading through an old copy of Rolling Stone magazine the other day, I was stunned to see a Howard Leese appraisal of your playing.
"Roger? He was nontechnical, a 'feel' musician......." Oh........and I suppose that Clapton, Hendrix, and countless others must have attended the same school you did.
Guitar playing is all about 'feel'.....otherwise you are running through a bunch of note-for-note riffs you've mastered years ago.
Bebe Le Strange was the day the music died for me.......you might as well have rolled the group out on stretchers and wheelchairs to perform those well-practiced riffs.
I can safely say that many thousands feel the same way and we're glad you emerged with your integrity and your 'feel' intact.
Keep on "feeling" for many years to come.
Your friend and fan,
Anne

Hi,

I'm wondering if you are interested in performing a benefit for Nova Alternative High School in Seattle. We've been hit extremely hard by the Seattle budget "mistakes" and we stand to lose 3 full time teachers if we don't come up with the money somewhere. Nova is a very unique school-see website novaproj.org-that serves high schoolers at risk-my son is a student there and Nova has saved his life. please help if you can.Janice Clark-a very concerned parent and seattle resident.

Hey Roger,
Thanks for the great write up on the Cruise.I didn't expect such a
large section of lit dedicated to our time we shared on stage together.
I know you said you sent it to me on my e-mail,but I didn't
receive it; so I just went to your site and read it.
My e-mail is: blueshooze@msn.com
The web site info I gave you,is still being finalized as far as having a web
host.(I just got this info today;it was supposed to be done when I was away
this past week, but there were some issues that were awaiting my personal
input to get it started.Hopefully it will be "energised" by Wednesday
or Thursday.)
Well my friend, I must go for now.
Thanks again for the kind words and "I'll see you backstage!!",
Tracy

Hi, Rog! It's been a while since I had a chance to talk to you. I purchased a copy of 'Standing, Looking Up' - it is fantastic! I listen to it constantly, it helps me through alot of stress. I'm still looking forward to seeing you again somtime! I still can't get that mental picture of you and Nancy doing Mistral Wind during the Dog And Butterfly Tour at Cincinnati, Ohio. You and Nance played off each other so well, it was art in motion. Those were definitely the good old days! I hope you and your family are doing well, when my partner and I make it back up to Seattle, she would like to take some guitar lessons from you! If I can find a suitable place of employment, I plan to someday move to Seattle, I love it up there! Well, goodbye for now, and to one of the most down-to earth professional musicians I know of, please don't ever change, you seem to be truly a good person. Love, and miss you Roger, you were a key part in my favorite rock group, still one of my favorite musicians. All the best; Thresa A Brownfield.

Hi Roger,
Is it true anybody can just phone you to talk? About music, of course. I've been your fan since 1979. I just found out you have a website. Do you call your true fans? You can call me anytime. hint hint.

Just thought I'd drop a line.

I love the Evolution album! Thought provoking, intelligent lyrics, and killer guitar. The Sitar work
is very cool throughout. And I love the detail, even down to the Rooster crow in the beginning of Awaken!!

Very Cool Rog!!

I want to make sure I buy Standing, Looking up, which I'll ask for when I see you next.

Peace, TOM
