It began in September of 2001 when a "Brit with wit, but no hit" named Mike Curley came in to Mars Recording Studio with hopes to record some of his original songs. While discussing how best to record him, Roger asked Mike to play and sing a bit. Rog was caught off guard. "Mike's ability to pull you in emotionally with his voice and driving guitar showed stellar potential." He listened to a few more songs before he jokingly told Mike he couldn't record at Mars.
