Kickstarter Project Announced: Rog's 60th - A Life Journey Of Music & Brotherhood

Mike and Roger Fisher, co-founders of rock group Heart, are excited to announce their new project - Rog’s 60th. This feature length film is a multi-faceted, musical movie that spotlights inspired music by Rog, drawing from 40 years’ life experience, while telling a story that is heart-rending, hilarious, and surprising.

After many years of working independently, the brothers have recently embarked on an ambitious project together, One Vision. Rog's 60th is one small part of that greater project. For this movie they have created an original soundtrack as unique as their story, including live performances of Rog and their talented friends and children.

The brothers are hoping for a 2011 release and are eager to finish the work, using KICKSTARTER.COM to help raise funds to pay for animation, editing, and other final video-capturing, including our full production multimedia Wrap Party Concert.

To this end you are invited to see Mike and Rog’s presentation. Please follow this link to kickstarter.com: Rog's 60th - A Life Journey Of Music & Brotherhood

If you would like to pledge your support, there are some great rewards. Also, you may spread the word via FACEBOOK; TWITTER; and any social networking platform you use, including email.

Thank you! With your support, this will be a much-loved movie.

In May, one of Mississippi’s most notable tourist attractions will celebrate ten years in business: Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale. Owned by Delta residents Morgan Freeman and Bill Luckett, Ground Zero has become one of Mississippi’s most recognizable brands, particularly in the blues world.

Back in 1999, an entrepreneur from the Netherlands and a doctor from London opened a blues club in downtown Clarksdale near the Sunflower River. That got Luckett to thinking that if two businessmen from across the Atlantic Ocean felt that strongly about Clarksdale, then perhaps someone local should consider opening a blues club as well.

Luckett and his friend Freeman started talking about opening their own blues club in Clarksdale in late ‘99. At that point, the two were already in the process of opening the fine-dining restaurant, Madidi. Soon, Luckett and Freeman started looking at buildings around Clarksdale and eventually found an old building on the opposite end of Delta Avenue from Madidi. They undertook extensive renovations and transformed the building into what became Ground Zero Blues Club. Ground Zero opened to the public in May, 2001. With dilapidated Delta Avenue suddenly flanked by a buzzed-about restaurant and a soon-to-be-world-famous blues club, other restaurants, retailers, and art galleries followed. Today, that entire street is hopping with activity. Every single day, tourists from around the world can be found shopping up and down Delta Avenue and listening to some of the most authentic blues music in the world at Ground Zero.

During its first decade, an impressive roster of high profile musicians and celebrities have either performed at Ground Zero Blues Club or enjoyed spending time there: Lyle Lovett, Dan Aykroyd, Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, Mike Wallace of “60 Minutes,” Rachael Ray, Ed King from Lynyrd Skynyrd, Roger Fisher from the rock band Heart, Naomi and Ashley Judd, members of the band Alabama and Paul Simon. The list goes on with Isaac Tigrett, founder of the Hard Rock Cafés and House of Blues clubs, Gene Simmons of the rock band, KISS, Willie Nelson and countless others. Tour buses by the droves are often seen unloading at Ground Zero for Delta-style soul food and entertainment. The club has also been the location for filming music videos, TV specials, motion industry films, documentaries, commercials, and political events and live broadcast events. Big plans are underway for Ground Zero’s anniversary celebration, see www.groundzerobluesclub.com.

Ground Zero has been an incredible asset to the Mississippi Delta and Mississippi’s tourism industry. And thanks to these forward-thinking entrepreneurs, we can all celebrate our heritage on a high note. DM

Come check out Roger and other Northwest musicians on Sundays at Eddie's Trackside Bar and Grill in Monroe!

EDDIE'S TRACKSIDE BAR AND GRILL - MONROE - 7 TO 10 PM MOST SUNDAYS

http://www.eddiestrackside.com/

We've enlarged the stage, put in a great P.A., upgraded the video projection system and added a lot of baffling around the stage.

The performance environment has been greatly improved. It's now a damn cool little place to play.

Roger Fisher and Friends will be playing there most Sundays, beginning February 20th. The way I'm advertising this is, "A place for the Northwest musical community to converge in a low-stress, party-like atmosphere to get loose, creative, and enjoy each other's talents. In addition, Rog will be fine-tuning new originals and previewing clips from movies and music videos. A behind-the-scenes look at some of the best talent in the Northwest and beyond."

Eddie's Trackside has good food, is kid-friendly until 10 PM and is owned by good people.

We're still growing this concept and plan to offer some very appealing things in the future, especially valuable for any band or individual interested in increasing their presence on the internet.

Rog's Sunday Jam Session was recently featured in the Monroe Monitor newspaper. Check out the article here!

Monday January 17 As most of you know, brother Mike and myself had scheduled a party to occur on February 13th, 2011. We’ve decided to cancel because some of our favorite players, and hopefully future band members, couldn’t attend.

We deeply apologize for getting hopes up, as our shows seem to be very popular because we have so much fun, but we have a standard that needs to be met. Full ticket price will be refunded to all of you who bought them.

dbash Productions - Mike and Roger Fisher - have long wanted to do a festival supporting environmental and local help themes. We’ve enjoyed gathering many great musicians over the last few years for various parties and concerts, always keeping in mind putting a great band together to do these kinds of shows to follow the release of our first movie, Rog’s 60th, and first album, All Told.

We’re now scouting sites for a Summer festival where we’ll be playing songs from the new album. As well as some major artists, we intend to include some of the local musicians we’ve been brainstorming, recording and rehearsing with.

Mike and I have been jointly living and breathing our craft for the last couple years and are very excited to share with you all what we perceive as our best work and the product of the last thirty years’ writing and recording.

It was wonderful being asked to join some of the best musicians to come out of the northwest. I sang backups with Gretchen Christopher of the Fleetwoods with the Ventures providing the music.
Next, the Wailers joined the Ventures and brought back some fond memories.
Then I played on their version of House Of The Rising Sun. The crowd reaction was awesome!
Then we did Hawaii Five-0 and then Wipe Out with Gretchen dancing like a banshee and Alan White joining in on drums.
Man, we rocked the place, which was jam packed (they turned away a thousand people).
A raucous-fun time was had by all!! The Ventures, possibly more than any other group, deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Music Aid Northwest put on the party at the Premier Club in Seattle that raised over $10,000 to aid the tsunami relief efforts. On the bill was Stolen Ogre, Alan White's new band, White, Randy Hansen and the Geoffrey Castle Band. At the end of our set we had a jam that was magical! Anyone who attended knew they witnessed something very special! August 14th in Greenwood, MS
I was honored to have been asked by Ian Osbourne of Black Oak Arkansas to play in the all star jam that climaxed the all-day festival. WE ROCKED!

In the words of Ian Osbourne just before we attacked the final song of the day, Crossroads, "Ladies and gentleman...I hereby proclaim that the Robert Johnson curse is as of now LIFTED, DESTROYED AND NO LONGER EXISTS!" After he said that, the band, consisting of John Lisi and Delta Funk, Shannon Williford, Luther Tatum, Ian Osbourne and myself played with a ferocity I've never witnessed before. It was truly amazing and brought tears to the eyes of at least one of the three Johnson grandsons.

Meeting and spending time with Robert Johnson's son and grandsons and their families on that beautiful day in Mississippi is something my daughter Lily and I will never forget!

On May 3rd, I'll be sitting in with my favorite northwest band, The Guarneri Underground. This just might end up being the party of the YEAR!!! Come as your favorite God or Goddess. Dressing up, all the way out and up, is definitely encouraged. There will be food, beer, and wine for sale - so it's NOT all ages unfortunately... Doors open around 8pm, but we go on around 11pm so there's plenty of time to make it from whatever else you're doing to catch the Underground with full lazer lights and a dance floor big enough for over 1,000 people...

"The events of the night began with an airing of the movie Charlie's Angels in the on-location theatre. Then everyone joined me in the concert hall for 90 minutes of acoustic rock. I love the places an audience and performer can visit in such an intimate setting. I gave a particularly inspired performance as I saw my new father-in-law lost in complete concentration on every nuance of my delivery.

Roger Fisher
Here's a review on the show, by Christina Sanches...

Roger Fisher at The Experience Music Project's Liquid Lounge March 29, 2001

The setting for this show was spectacular. If you haven't been to Seattle's "state of the art interactive museum" solely dedicated to experiencing music, past & present to it's fullest extent then you're missing out on something truly magical. And Roger's performance was no exception to this theme.

The architecture of this structure with it's mountain high ceilings and wide open spaces captured by walls with as many wild twists and turns as a you can imagine was a perfect compliment to Roger's range of musical surprises for the evening. This three hour acoustic performance began with a glimpse of the 60's thru a beautifully naked version of the Blind Faith tune, "Can't Find My Way Home." From there our host leads us into the present with intimate stories of the songs he performed from his current album. The audience was drawn in with "Hangin," awestruck with "Just Believe" and by the end of "Pray For Love" we were like members of the same family.

As the evening continued to unfold so did the special guest appearances! The audience was full of some of Seattle's finest whom Rog welcomed graciously to the stage. When Gretchen Christopher of the Fleetwoods joined Rog for a duet on her hit "Come Softly to Me" (this was the most popular song in the world in 1959) it was proof that music transcends time and space. Their voices blended perfectly and the song sounded as fresh as the day it was recorded. Another highlight was a version of Sir Elton's "Rocket Man" where Rog soulfully reminds you that Elton's music doesn't only apply to the piano! Next, Gino D'Cafano and Jack Mittleman join Rog and together the guitar men performed their original songs, "When I was Young" "Raindance" and "The Bridge." They transitioned smoothly into a medley of Beatles and Elvis tunes and the audience could no longer contain their enthusiasm. They were on their feet and dancing. Now that's entertainment!

Rog closed out the evening by bringing up a few more talented musicians from the audience. Matthew Burgess (percussion) Geoff Sick (violin) and Pat Ilanios (guitar) are now on stage and we have a full-out band up there to perform the Heart classics "Love Alive" and "Mistral Wind." Simply a perfect ending to a grand performance where Rog left no stone unturned on our journey as he paid homage to the very reason the walls of the Experience Music Project were built!

Sunday Aug. 12-13
Issaquah, Wa. USA
Issaquah Music Festival
Rock and roll history was made August 12th in Issaquah, Washington.
Spencer Davis (Keep On Runnin', I'm A Man, Gimme Some Lovin', etc.) was in town to play the first annual Issaquah Music Festival - a three-day affair - when Spencer's dream of more than twenty years came true: Alan White, Yes' drummer, provided the beat for his performance. They were joined by Jim Cliff on bass guitar, Gary on Hammond organ, Reek Havoc on hand percussion, Jeff Simmonds on guitar, and Roger Fisher on guitar.
With one rehearsal under their belts, the musicians put on a fine show...a really fun show that surprised and ignited the crowd of about 1500 people.
Spencer is a seasoned and talented professional and gave an inspired performance. Alan White was stunning, clearly one of the best drummers in the world. The high point of the night however, was a guitar-jam between Spencer and Roger. The interplay was uncanny. The band moved like a school of fish, making changes in direction at precisely the same time, intuitively going the same way without thought. Time stood still. It was one of the most exhilarating musical moments I have ever witnessed!
Roger Fisher's group played the following day, performing songs from Evolution.
The band line up was: Marc Willett on bass guitar, Rick Boice on drums (Marc and Rick can be heard on Paul Allen's new album), Matthew Burgess on hand drums, Jack Mittleman on guitar, and Roger on lead vocals and guitar.

Rog and Friends performed at the 1999 Concert for Sacred Lands along with several other artists and celebrities.
Rog says about the show:
"The Sacred Lands concert was very special to me. A few weeks prior, I had done a press conference and was surprized by the prescence of a Lummi elder, Cha-Das-Ska-Tum Which-Talum, whom I'd met the year before at a show we played together in Bellingham. This man's voice and musical spirit is unlike anything I've experienced before! Incredibly powerful and moving!
He asked if I'd like to go to an old growth forest near Mt. Baker. He said he was a "songcatcher", and maybe he could catch something that we could perform at another press conference we were doing a week later. Of course I was very excited at the opportunity and an entourage of five people went to a place where Cha-Das-Ska-Tum had done several vision quests.
As we stood between two 1500 year old trees, "Grandmother and Grandfather", he cleansed us with burning sage, and began to sing. I found myself entering a state that was familiar from childhood experiences and more recent meditation: it's the feeling of everything being vastly huge and very tiny at the same time. From there, I began feeling how his singing was expressing the feelings of the trees!
I actually felt the feelings of the trees myself. I felt an intense yearning, calling out to humanity to wake up and become aware of a higher plane. I felt an authority from them that I had no previous notion of: They are GUARDIANS! I felt their immeasurable sadness in their crying out to us. Their prescence on this planet is of far greater import than most people know.
While becoming one with Cha-Das-Ska-Tum's singing, words began entering my mind. They spilled out and were "trapped" by a microcassette recorder. We now had our performance material.
The next press conference took place at the Burke Museum in Seattle's University District. Cha-Das-Ska-Tum's wife played flute, he sang, and I spoke the words that had come from the mountain. It was very moving to all that attended.
When December 11th came, there was a new-found depth and urgency to my being, as well as my ability to perform! Partially because of that, it was a great show. People who had seen me play many times over the years remarked it was the best they had ever seen me, that now I'm doing to singing what I've always done to guitar playing! Music to my ears!
